While metal braces may be considered “traditional,” there is nothing “traditional” about the metal braces we use. They are made for efficient tooth movement and optimal patient comfort. And, if that’s not enough, we have a huge variety of colored ties you can change every visit to spice up your braces! We also offer clear ceramic braces, which are much more difficult to detect in one’s appearance.
What to Expect While Wearing Metal Braces
Metal braces are the most common type of braces, and today, metal braces are more comfortable than ever before. During treatment, you may experience irritation in your gums. This is normal, and there are plenty of tips and tricks to help lessen the discomfort. You can apply wax to your brackets, which we will supply for you. You can also try a saltwater rinse.
Metal braces are strong, but you still do have to take care of your braces! While wearing braces you should avoid hard & crunchy food, as well as chewy & sticky foods. Remember that braces are a big investment, and in order to make sure you get the best results you should avoid sticky, chewy, crunchy and hard foods.
What to Expect While Wearing Clear Braces
While clear braces work in a similar manner to metal braces, they are not quite as strong due to the somewhat fragile nature of the material from which they are made. We typically recommend clear braces to adults, since they tend to be more responsible and better at avoiding the activities and foods that cause damage to the brackets. As with metal braces, you should avoid hard & crunchy food, as well as chewy & sticky foods.
The Importance of Oral Hygiene
While wearing your braces, brushing and flossing may become a bit more difficult, but it is important to maintain proper oral hygiene. Food can get stuck between your braces and teeth, so be sure to brush and floss after meals.
