CAN I DRINK WITH MY INVISALIGN IN?

One of the most frequently asked questions I get from my Invisalign patients is whether or not they can drink with their Invisalign aligners in! Obviously, we know that it is advised to remove them before eating but what happens when you are outside, it's summertime, you're hot and parched and you just need something to drink but you can't easily and discreetly remove your aligners?

Here is the recommendation from Brooklyn Heights Orthodontics and Dr. Sue Liebman who has treated hundreds of Invisalign patients through the years.  Realizing that Invisalign aligners are not water tight, anything you drink may seep under the aligners and then be trapped  under them and sitting on your teeth. But what if you just can't take them out easily and need to stay hydrated?

Our recommendation is based on real life common sense.  Take that drink, hydrate yourself - SO important - but as soon as you get to where you are going and can easily remove your aligners, then do so, rinse your aligners thoroughly and swish around some water a few times just to wash away anything that might have had a sugary content and was sitting on your teeth and reinsert your aligners.

Of course, any hot liquids should be avoided but above all, don't stress, use common sense and if you are not sure what to do, just ask us. Here at Brooklyn Heights Orthodontics, we encourage questions and are here to help answer any that may arise to make your journey here with us go as smoothly as possible!
